Translator

The Government of Mongolia has received a Loan from International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and International Development Association for Mongolia Transport Connectivity and Logistics Improvement Project (MTCLIP). The Project aims to remove critical bottlenecks in the selected road networks and improve maintenance, deliver infrastructure and logistic services effectively to unlock potential of meat supply chain across the major freight routes, and address information asymmetry and administrative barriers by delivering timely information to the right parties. The project components are: (i) infrastructure investments; (ii) transport and logistics services; (iii) technical assistance and capacity building; and (iv) contingent emergency response.

This project is seeking a professional for the position of providing Translator. The selected candidate will report directly to the Project Coordinator.

The objective of the assignment: The Translator will provide professional quality written translation of project materials and interpretation between English and Mongolian. He/she will provide translation services to the PMO and other stakeholders, such as international consultants and missions.

Contract: Full-time for one year with possible extension based on performance starting from January 2024.

Duties and responsibilities: The Translator will have the following duties (but are not limited to):

Translation:

1. Provide professional quality written translation of project materials between English and Mongolian. The subject of the documents would cover, but not limited to, project management, transportation planning and engineering, transport economics, infrastructure planning and implementation, road safety, monitoring and evaluation, sociology and economics/finance;
2. Communicate with the international consultants or staff of the Project Management Office (PMO) for clarification of the contents as needed;
3. Report the progress and the status of translation to the Project coordinator or PMO for clarification of the contents as needed;
4. Gather relevant information and documents;
5. Review and edit existing translations as needed;
6. Provide timely and high-quality translation.

Interpretation service:

1. Provide professional-level oral (sequential) interpretation between English and Mongolian;
2. Adequate and accurate use of the terminologies used in the relevant fields where necessary;
3. Willingness to work extended hours should the circumstance require;

10. Undertake such other tasks as may be reasonably requested and/ or assigned by the Project Coordinator and MRTD.

Essential requirements:

• Undergraduate or higher degree in relevant disciplines such as Linguistics, and Social Science;
• Prior professional experience of at least 2 years in oral and written translation/interpretation in the fields such as civil engineering, infrastructure, transport, logistics etc;
• Well-versed in the specific or widely used professional terminologies in the transportation and logistics sector;
• Ability to provide quality written and oral translation/interpretation with a short turnaround time and accurately convey the meaning of the given context;
• Good interpersonal, communication, and participatory skills with the ability to function effectively and collaboratively in a team environment;
• Excellent computer literacy, particularly with MS Office programs;
